Minnesota SF 3572 — Circumstances When Firearms Are Permitted on School Property
Threat level: green
Would have changed when weapons are allowed on Minnesota school property. For airsoft, it would have dropped the principal's-written-permission exception for replica firearms and BB guns and extended the school-property rule to High School League event venues; existing penalties would not change.
Bill summary
Bill modifying when firearms are permitted on Minnesota school property, including new secure-storage rules for authorized carriers. It would not change the existing penalties for replica firearms and BB guns on school property, which are already law: using or brandishing one is a gross misdemeanor, and possessing one is a misdemeanor. The changes that matter for airsoft: it would remove the exception that allows BB guns or replica firearms on school property with the principal's written permission, and it would extend "school property" to buildings hosting Minnesota State High School League events where signs are posted. Minnesota's "replica firearm" definition covers airsoft guns. SF 3572 (Sens. Cwodzinski and Mann) was introduced February 17, 2026, cleared two Senate committees in March, and was re-referred to the Finance Committee on March 23, where it stalled. The 94th Legislature adjourned in May 2026 without acting on it, and the bill died.
