Threat level: yellow

Bill summary

S9215A (Sen. Rachel May) amends New York's general business law on imitation guns. As amended, it would define "imitation weapon" to include air rifles, pellet guns, and BB guns that substantially duplicate a firearm, raise the minimum age to buy them from 16 to 18, and require firearm industry members to take steps to keep their products from being replicated as imitation weapons. The amendment added protection for air guns lawfully acquired before the effective date. Introduced February 17, 2026, the bill remained in the Senate Consumer Protection Committee, as did its Assembly companion, A10701A. The Legislature adjourned for the year in June 2026 without acting on it. Bills from the 2025–2026 session that have not passed expire when the session ends on December 31, 2026. Airsoft Coalition will monitor for reintroduction in 2027.
